Sanborn Central Community,
The efforts to patch areas on the south end of the football field did not yield the results necessary to host a football game this year. The October 11th varsity game will be moved to Wessington Springs. We are going to use this time to properly winterize the field to prepare for the next youth soccer and football seasons to make our field ready for play. The Sanborn Central School District takes pride in being a meeting point for our community and will continue to strive to showcase and improve our school.
Superintendent Corey Flatten & Board President Mark Goral

Tomorrow night the C team will play each other at 4:15 before the JH match at 5:15.

Sanborn Central is seeking a responsible Lunchroom Substitute to ensure smooth lunchroom operations and provide a positive dining experience for students. Responsibilities include meal preparation, serving food, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting regular staff. Ideal candidates should be friendly, team-oriented, and efficient in a fast-paced environment. If interested, please contact Laura Conrad at 605-495-4183 or email her at laura.conrad@k12.sd.us.

Although Mrs. Wilson did not walk away with the Teacher of the Year title, we are still over the moon proud of her for accomplishments thus far in her teaching career. Being in the top five is a prestigious award within itself! Thank You Mrs. Wilson for calling Sanborn Central your home. No spoilers here, read the press release to find out who brought home the Teacher of the Year title.
A note from Dr. Joseph Graves
Good morning,
Last night, a small group of educators, their families, and admirers of every stripe gathered to honor some of South Dakota’s best and brightest and to celebrate the teaching profession at the annual Teacher of the Year banquet. I never cease to be amazed at the impact of not just the people being recognized but all teachers have on their students. And how those students carry those fond memories of and appreciation for their teachers all their lives. We belong to a special profession, a line-of-work that makes a genuine and often profound difference in the lives of children. Fundamentally, teaching matters. We matter.
Thanks are not enough for all you do, but thank you, nevertheless.
Congratulations to our 2025 South Dakota Teacher of the Year Amy Verhelst and the four other Region Teachers of the Year. You can read the press release here. I also invite you to watch these videos of the five Region Teachers of the Year – they are an affirmation of why we do what we do.
Region 1 – Amy Verhelst, Sioux Valley Elementary – kindergarten
Region 2 – Erin Rieff, Brandon Valley Middle School – art
Region 3 – Megan Wilson, Sanborn Central High School – math
Region 4 – Christy Saltsman, Gettysburg School District – math and PE
Region 5 – Michelle Abbott, West Elementary School, Spearfish – 2nd grade

Sanborn Central Community,
We have decided to move our Sept. 30th JH/JV game and our Oct. 4th varsity game to Wessington Springs. Field conditions on the south end are not satisfactory to hold a game at this point, and our target date of the October 11th varsity game is still our goal. This is not the news we wished to share with our community. Our school events at Sanborn Central are very important to the community and students. We aim to continue to make progress on our field and holding football games at Sanborn Central is a priority.
Superintendent Corey Flatten & Board President Mark Goral
